Christening Gifts - How to Save Money

1. Plan ahead when deciding upon Christening gifts.  This will allow you to hit the sales at just the right time. For example, if you know that you will be invited to more than one Christening, purchase a number of cute outfits, with a neutral color like yellow or green.  This will allow you to give a nice gift whether the baby is a girl or boy. Shop at the very end of the season and you will find beautiful,  high quality clothing at amazing prices. If you shop at a children's clothing outlet, you will save even more.

Another popular Christening gift, according to many moms I know, is a bag or basket full of small baby staples like pacifiers, rattles, bibs or anything else that is used on a regular basis.  Once again, by shopping the sales, and picking up these items when they are on sale, you will be all set for future Christenings.

Finally, be on the look-out for elegant photo frames on sale, which will hold standard size photos, either 4" x 6" or 5" x 7".  You can place your favorite poem, scripture, or wishes for the baby within the frame.

The best sale on frames is immediately after Christmas.  However, you can find reasonably priced frames year-round.

2.  Consider inexpensive card options.  If you have priced Christening cards, you often find them up to $5.00. However, mini silver cross frames are available for $.99.  You can simply write a nice note, place it in the mini frame and attach it to your gift.  Another option is to make the card, which can be a fun family project.  In addition, the card will receive special attention because of its hand-made nature. Finally, you may wish to invest in a box of blank Cross design note cards and use them for Christening cards.

3.  Replace a gift bag with a beautiful basket.  Gift bags can run up to $6.00, that is unless you shop at the dollar store for great deals.  Gift baskets can be found the day after Easter for $ .99. Check out gift baskets before Easter to select the store with the nicest ones.  (I found Target to be a great source.) Fine those that arrive at your store of choice when the doors open, the day after Easter. This will allow you to have the best possible selection.  Stock up on these baskets, as they can be used for many Christenings as well as baby showers.
